A Century of Friendship, Coming to the Screen

For one hundred years, The Girl Friends, Inc. has cultivated a legacy unlike any other — one rooted in genuine friendship, civic purpose, and the quiet, enduring power of Black women lifting one another up. In 2027, as we celebrate our centennial, we are thrilled to announce that this remarkable story will be told through a feature-length documentary.

100 Years. One Extraordinary Story.

From our founding in 1927 to the present day, The Girl Friends have gathered in living rooms and ballrooms, led community initiatives and championed causes, and forged bonds of friendship that have spanned generations. Ours is not a story that has been widely told — and that is precisely what makes it so important to tell now.

This documentary will chronicle one hundred years of friendship: the women who started it all, the traditions we have carried forward, the impact we have made in our communities, and the meaning of belonging to something both deeply personal and profoundly historic. It is a celebration of who we are, where we have been, and where we are headed.

Why Now

As we approach this milestone, we recognize that some of our richest history lives in the memories of our members — in handwritten letters, in photo albums, in the stories passed down across decades of friendship. A centennial comes only once, and this documentary is our opportunity to preserve and share this legacy with the world.

Stay Tuned

We are currently in the early stages of production and will share more details — including the title, creative team, and release plans — in the months ahead. What we can tell you now is this: if you have ever wondered what it means to be a Girl Friend, this film will show you.
